- Zip in bulk is about $160 vs 170MB HD (single unit) is $60 plus a 2X SCSI2
- CDROM drive (single unit) is about $80, which equals $140. Which is cheaper?

- Floppies aren't virtually useless, they ARE useless. Much of the files
- people move these days are much larger than what floppies can hold. The
- backup device needs to be optional for the user. Most users will get one
- but they can choose which one they want. If they want a Zip drive, a
- Jazz drive, or floppy drive then let them but AT should have a CDROM and
- hard drive as the LCD. Zip drives are nice but the distribution costs
- for developers would be way to high. It's cheaper all the way around if
- they use CDROMs.
-

-
- Iomega is going to have to license out the manufacturing of the media before
- it'll ever drop and then it will take a couple of years. CDROMs are a
- much better choice for distribution of software.
-
-
- : The real point is that AT are probably too 'chicken' to take on some of
- : these innovative ideas...
-
- I think they will eventually see the light but I hope it doesn't take
- them to long. They need to go ahead and make a clean break from floppies.
- I'm not sure if the 1200+ is going to have a case redesign. They need to go
- ahead and turn it into a CDROM/HD machine and make the floppy an optional
- add on. If I had a choice of a machine that had a floppy plus hard drive
- or a CDROM plus hard drive, I would jump on the CDROM/HD one in a second.
